Advisory Board

St. Mark Community Preschool is governed by a volunteer advisory board which reports to the Session of St. Mark Presbyterian Church. Most advisory board members are parents of past or current students. The board is currently comprised of the following individuals:

Pamela Young – President of the Preschool Advisory Board

Pamela is a graduate of the University of California Riverside. She currently operates her own professional organizing and small business consulting firm. Pamela and her husband, Alan, have been members of St. Mark Presbyterian Church since 1999. Pamela has served on various church commissions, including the Board of Deacons from 2007 to 2009. Their son, Brandon, is a student of St. Mark Community Preschool.

Susan Thornton 

Susan is the Director of Education at St. Mark Presbyterian Church and serves as a church representative on the Advisory Board for the preschool. The children love her and she enjoys working  with Pastor Mark with our monthly preschool Chapel for the children.

Summer Arambarri

Summer Arambarri joined the Advisory Board as a parent representative in 2015. She graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a Sociology major and a Women’s Studies minor. She spent the majority of her working career at PIMCO and is now raising her two children. Her daughter graduated from St. Mark Preschool in 2015 and her son graduated from the preschool in 2017. Summer enjoys volunteering in her daughter’s elementary school classroom, is on the “Making Memories for Children” committee for the Newport Beach Library Foundation, and is honored to serve on the Board at St. Mark Community Preschool.

 Bobbi Dauderman – St. Mark Church Session Representative

Bobbi is a graduate of Elmhurst College with a degree in history and education. She taught elementary school in Newton, MA and the Dominican Republic. She has volunteered as a tutor at Shalimar Learning Center in Costa Mesa for the past 20 years. She and her husband have traveled widely and lived in Latin American for five years. In 1976 they founded and operated Nautilus Plus Fitness Centers. Bobbi was Vice President and the Director of Marketing. They are members of St. Mark Presbyterian Church where Bobbi has been active with VBS and currently serves on the Board of Elders as Co-Chair of the Peace & Justice Commission. They have three children and ten grandchildren.

Patricia Frankel – Secretary

Patricia graduated from the University of Southern California with a B.A. in Journalism and a minor in Business. After graduation she worked for William Lyon Homes as a Land Acquisition Assistant Director in San Diego an then Land Acquisition Manager for the Inland Empire Region. After five years in the home-building industry, Patricia consulted with several National Banks in their Real Estate Assets Departments for a couple of years until having children. Patricia and her husband Keith have three children, two are current students at St. Mark Community Preschool and one graduated in 2016. They are parishioners at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Newport Beach and stay active with exercise, travels, and activities with their three children.

Joann Schaum 

Joanne Schaum was born in Holland, Michigan and holds Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Vocal Performance. She is married to a retired AF Officer and has lived in several parts of the country. She and her husband travel frequently and she is an avid quilter. For many years she was a vocal coach and teacher, as well as a choir director. She joined St. Mark Presbyterian Church in 1998 and has been active in their music program ever since – both singing in the choir and playing handbells. She has worked in VBS, is a long time member of the St. Mark Care Team, and is presently the chair of the Peace and Justice Commission.

Julie Chiaverini 

Julie Chiaverini is a Supervisor of Teacher Education and Lecturer in the School of Education at University of California at Irvine, as well as an Independent Curriculum & Instruction Consultant at local elementary schools. She has held numerous teaching positions in New York, Chicago, and Orange County public schools. Julie holds an ED.M. in Educational Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University, an M.A. in Childhood Education from NYU, and a B.A. in Family and Community Services from the University of Oregon. Julie and her husband are lucky to have one child still attending St. Mark Community Preschool and one graduate from the preschool. As a family, they enjoy swimming, hiking, and spending countless hours at the beach.
